BREAKING – Stephen Miller Becomes WH Chief of Staff

President Trump announced on Truth Social Friday that his longtime adviser Stephen Miller will take over as White House Chief of Staff, and Susie Wiles “will be moving over to the Trump Political Operation.” Miller, an immigration hard-liner who worked closely with Breitbart on our coverage long before Trump began his takeover of the Republican Party, has represented the beating heart of the MAGA movement in both Trump administrations. Selecting him for this top role shows Trump is not backing down on immigration, even as Democrats threaten to claw back funding for ICE operations when they take both chambers of Congress next year. Blowout Jobs Numbers

The United States added 165,000 jobs in October – beating economists’ forecasts of only 62,000 – and the unemployment rate fell to 4.1 percent. And this growth was on top of 84,000 jobs added to the baseline, via upward revisions to August and September’s numbers. Our Economics Editor John Carney says he doesn’t see any mixed-bag angle to this latest jobs report. Salon, Farewell…The San Francisco-based news site Salon has shut down, with a brief announcement that operations would end immediately because "our publishing model is no longer sustainable.”

The outlet – which once had notable names like Jake Tapper and Glenn Greenwald as contributors – was always far-left in its politics; our founder Andrew Breitbart considered it particularly loathsome. But as John Nolte points out, it did little to stand out in the Trump era, only publishing the occasional egregious hot take, generating a few hate-clicks:
The site’s announcement did not elaborate on what forces made its business model fail. However, we do know that legacy media has suffered greatly from the advent of AI summaries on web searches. Even if the chatbot draws from – and links to – a legacy media publisher, very few users are clicking the link to double-check the LLM’s output. Last year, a study showed that Google referral traffic has fallen for some publishers by up to 80%. Since we have been essentially blacklisted by Google since the 2020 election, all we can say is: welcome to the club, friends! CAIR-Florida: Banned, on the RunThe Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has now suspended its operations in Florida, state Attorney General James Uthmeier announced Thursday night. Gov. Ron DeSantis officially labeled CAIR a domestic terrorist organization at the end of September, and the designation went into effect this week. CAIR, backed by the ACLU, is preparing a legal challenge to the decision – but will need to do so in one of the other 49 states. While Florida took this action before the midterm elections, this update is what we call a “micro-win” – moments of hope for the good guys, even though the big-picture political landscape is grim for populist conservatives right now. During the Biden administration, DeSantis was particularly skilled at doling out micro-wins for his base and energizing the MAGA movement.

Progressives Take Aim at SchumerA growing chorus of incoming Democrat senators – from Peggy Flanagan to Juliana Stratton even to gentle, folksy Adam Hamilton – are saying they won’t support Chuck Schumer for Senate Majority Leader. Even Cory Booker is declining to say whether he’ll support the septuagenarian from New York. Abdul El-Sayed again declared his support for Sen. Chris Van Hollen in the leadership role, but NewsNation reports (based on “a source close to Van Hollen”) that he won’t run.

The progressives have late-night host Jon Stewart in their corner, who – in a new post-election podcast – said there’s no case to give Schumer credit for Tuesday’s massive victories. “Chuck Schumer fought tooth and nail against half of these f**king people!” Stewart said on The Weekly Show. “And even if he didn’t, he does not understand the urgency of the moment and what the future demands.” But our DC Bureau Chief Matt Boyle thinks the establishment will probably push him over the finish line regardless. If the Democrats end up with 56 seats, he only needs a majority within the conference (29 votes) to prevail. “You would need to see 29 defections to block him.” End of the Cybertruck

Elon Musk announced on X Friday that his company Tesla plans to stop building the Cybertruck at its Austin, Texas, factory next year. While the electric car company’s first pickup truck made a big splash with its 2019 announcement event, the futuristic design was widely mocked, development was plagued with problems and delays, and once it began selling in late 2023, the product generated negative headlines for poor build quality, safety issues, and recalls. |
