The Biden-Harris nanny state continues to stick its nose into the homes, lives, and personal habits of everyday Americans - especially ones they look down upon. You already know they are targeting your gas stoves, dishwashers, and water heaters. You know they are inching toward limits on meat consumption. But did you know they are also attempting to ban menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars, too? It’s all part of a plan to have the government make all your decisions for you. Under their plan, Washington, D.C. will micromanage every aspect of your life, from the car you’re permitted to drive, to how you invest your savings, to the cigarettes you are allowed to smoke. The Biden-Harris administration is hoping Americans will outsource their adult critical thinking skills to cubicle-dwelling, nameless, faceless bureaucrats in Washington. The menthol cigarette and flavored cigar ban would come in the form of an upcoming U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) rule change. The bargain they are hoping adult Americans will strike here is that we will trade in our freedom of choice because they say it could reduce our health risk. Yet responsible adults happily live with the tradeoffs of modern life every day. Nearly 45,000 Americans die in car crashes every year. Millions of us – almost all of us, in fact – accept that risk and drive to work, the store, or our kids’ sports practices all the time. Here's the thing: Some adults enjoy smoking menthol cigarettes. In fact, almost 40% of all smokers choose menthol flavored cigarettes. That number is much higher among Black and Hispanic Americans. Over 80% of Black American smokers prefer menthols. If the rule goes into effect, Biden and Harris will criminalize the buying and selling of cigarettes that many of their own voters enjoy. A 2022 survey of swing voters in 3 states (Georgia, Nevada, and North Carolina) showed that majorities support keeping menthol cigarettes legal. Most Independent voters, and even a plurality of Democratic voters agreed. Huge majorities (upwards of 90%) believe the ban should not be a priority of the federal government because there are too many other issues to address. And 60%-plus agree the Biden-Harris administration should put a pause on the ban. These voters understand what most Americans also understand – that adults can make their own choices and we don’t need Biden or Harris sticking their noses in our personal lives. If you smoke, know someone who does, or just believe all adults should be able to make their own adult decisions tell the Biden-Harris FDA to back off. And tell your Member of Congress to do whatever it takes to stop FDA’s overreach. |
